Oral Presentation Reflection CAA 25/11/17 (Portfolio FINAL)

On 16th November 2017, my group, The Solution presented the proposal to improve the energy consumption in Singapore. This presentation gauges my current presentation skill on how well I am capable of explaining the content of the proposal to the audience. It is one of many presentations that I am going to have throughout my university journey. Therefore, I need to assess and reflect on my performance of the presentation to further improve my presentation skill. It is essential to identify the strength of my presentation so that I could maintain the same standard for my future presentations. During my polytechnic days, I learned that it is important to prepare for the presentation. As such, I prepared myself by practising to present in front of the mirror before the actual presentation so that I could to deliver the content to the audience smoothly. Therefore, I feel that investing time and effort to prepare for a presentation benefits me by building confidence in myself to deliver

Critical Reflection CAA 25/11/17 (Portfolio FINAL)

For the past 12 weeks, I have “learnt, unlearn and relearn” the various communication skills through the Effective Communication module. I felt that the module assignments have helped me to improve my writing and verbal communication skill. First of all, reader response has improved my ‘analysing’ ability and encourage me to think with my own perspective towards an article. Through this assignment, it has taught me to write my own views in regards to respond to the article by gathering reliable sources from other authors view. Furthermore, it polishes my citation and paraphrasing skill. Next, I believe that the technical report is the highlight of this module. It has given my group an opportunity to write a report by identifying a real-life engineering problem. It deciphers our ideas, research, and observation into a formal report format, which it is a fundamental skill to learn and use it throughout our journey in Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). Lastly, I have be

According to the article by Tan (2017), “Floor lights help 'smartphone zombies' keep eye on the road”, Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be implementing a six-month trial project by installing Light-Emitting Diode (LED) strips on the pavement at the crosswalks to improve road safety of the pedestrians. It aims to resolve the hazards caused by the 'smartphone zombies' phenomenon. ‘Smartphone zombies’ refer to people who walk without taking their eyes off their phone. While the implementation of LED strips aims to improve the safety of the pedestrians at crosswalks, it possibly poses potential problems that the article did not address. The authority should focus on a different approach in order to raise people’s awareness of road safety. First of all, the project might lead people to be over-reliant on the LED technology. Barber (2017) explained that the LED strips help the pedestrians by directing them to react accordingly but it cannot check the safety of the ro

Patrick Foo Energy Market Authority Energy Planning & Development Division 10 Dover Drive Singapore 138682 Dear Mr. Foo, Enclosed for your kind attention is a response to the request for proposals on solving an engineering problem in Singapore. This report’s intention is to recommend improvements to the Building Management System (BMS) through implementing a smart metering system in the Singapore’s public hospital. The proposal contains background information of the problem that has been identified and the proposed solution to counter the problem along with its benefits and limitations. Thank you for your time and attention to read this letter. If you have any question about the information of the report, feel free to contact us and we look forward to assisting you.   Yours Sincerely, Toh Wei Jie Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering (Building Services) Singapore Institute of Technology Executive Summary This proposal d

Technical Report Draft 1 Smart Meter

Background This proposal is with regards to the Call for Proposal (CFP) by Energy Market Authority (EMA) in developing technical solutions for a smart metering trial. Known globally for being a "clean and green" country, Singapore continues to improve on this aspect through educating the community as well as implementing sustainable solutions to current problems. The masterplan target by the Inter-ministerial Committee on Sustainable Development(IMCSD) is to make at least 80% of its buildings green by 2030(mnd.gov.sg, 2011).  Transparency of the building's energy performance would provide building owners relevant data to analyse(BCA website, 2017), bridging the goal to more greener buildings in the future. According to EMA (2016), the current metering system by a typical building in Singapore is to read the electricity, gas and water meter individually. The facilities management staff members are required to obtain the different meter reading from different locat

Summary - Draft 1

In the article by Tan, “Floor lights help 'smartphone zombies' keep eye on the road”, Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be implementing a six-month trial project by installing LED strips on the pavement to improve the road safety feature. The aim is to resolve the hazards caused by the 'smartphone zombies' phenomenon. Smartphone zombies refer to people who can’t take their eyes off their phone while traveling around. While LTA approach on the LED strips is to improve the safety aspect of road users, it possibly fails to educate and raise the awareness on pedestrian safety of road users.
