In the Straits Times news release, “Floor lights help 'smartphone zombies' keep eye on the road” by Christopher Tan (2017),  the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be implementing a six-month trial on streets LEDs in hope of resolving the hazards caused by the  'smartphone zombies' phenomenon. Smartphone zombies refer to people who can’t take their eyes off their phone while traveling around. LTA claimed that the LEDs will be visible even in daylight, and it will also resemble the conventional traffic lights at the pedestrian crossing to guide the 'smartphone zombies'. LTA further mentioned that each pair of the LED strips costs around $10,000 to $13,000 and it will be installed in high human traffic areas around Singapore to obtain feedback from the general public before officially releasing it to other parts of Singapore.

LTA believe that by implementing the LED strips to be fixed onto the floor will improve the safety aspect of road users. However, implementing the project does not fully raise the awareness of the pedestrian safety. Furthermore, it allows the younger generation to be over-reliance on the technology which poses danger as well.
